Writing is all about editing. But editing, unlike writing, is rarely the stuff of romance. Revising for substance, structure, storyline, and clarity of argument is stressful: brain- and back-breaking; all sweat and tears. We writers often cringe at the thought.
And yet it’s the most productive part of the writing process.

Having been through it myself (two monographs, a series of imaginative fiction, and a great many papers and essays), and having seen students and colleagues through their theses, dissertations, articles and book manuscripts, I know how to help others refine their beloved texts. What’s more, I enjoy the process of thinking with other writers, which is why I specialize in developmental editing, where we start at the foundations.
Put simply, I offer substantive comments on the structure and flow of your text and the coherence of arguments you’ve presented. I also work with you through outlines in the early stages of writing. When working with academics, I excel at thinking through research materials and methods so as to make the best use of them for the sake of the overall story. I especially enjoy working with early career scholars turning their dissertations into monographs and academics at every stage who want to reach wider audiences.
Above all, I deepen the editing process with real time dialogue. It is these face-to-face conversations, often virtual, that foster the workshop-like conditions in which we think jointly through your emerging materials.
